You’re never too old for cosmetic surgery
Many senior citizens think they’re too old to consult with a Miami cosmetic surgeon. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, seniors 65 and older accounted for only 8 percent of the 10 million cosmetic procedures performed in 2012, both surgical and non-surgical. But as was recently pointed out in an article from local news source the Florida Sun-Sentinel, seniors have much to gain from undergoing such treatment.
Florida seniors tend to be more active and healthy than the elderly in other states, which means they’re looking for a youthful look to keep up with their youthful energy. The article consulted plastic surgeons in Miami and found that seniors consisted of ten to twenty percent of patients overall, higher than the national average.
“The average 70- or 80-year-old across the country is in a nursing home or homebound,” Dr. Jorge Perez, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Fort Lauderdale, told the source. “Here, they’re playing tennis, golfing, ballroom dancing, When I’m talking to colleagues around the country, they are astonished I do facelifts on 70- and 80-year-olds.”
“Call me crazy, but I don’t want to be an advertisement for hanging skin,” said Gisele G. Webber, 90, who receives routine Botox and filler injections in her forehead and lips.
