Mommy makeovers are becoming more popular with young women
A recent trend that has taken the plastic surgery world by storm is the “Mommy Makeover“, or women that go under the knife in order to get back to their pre-baby bodies. This can include a wide range of procedures, from breast augmentations to tummy tucks. No matter what age the woman is, she will want to try and look her best after going through one, or several, pregnancies.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS), there were 112,000 tummy tucks performed in 2010 alone, up over 85 percent from the previous decade. In the same time frame, breast lifts were up 70 percent, as these are the two most common features of a mommy makeover. While there are certain procedures that define this phenomenon, the reason it has become so popular among women is because of how highly customizable it is.
In addition to the two procedures stated above, women who have given birth are opting for a whole host of surgeries, including abdominoplasty, liposuction and breast reduction. What is also striking about these surgeries is how they are becoming increasingly common for younger women, especially those who are in their late 20s and 30s. According to ASPS, 36 percent of the nearly 10 million minimally-invasive cosmetic surgeries that were performed in 2006 were on women between the ages of 30 and 39, with 29 percent aged 20 to 29.
A mommy makeover typically runs the average person around $13,000, but has a very high satisfaction rate among the women who have the work done.
