Is your plastic surgeon qualified?
If you are thinking about having some cosmetic work done, there are many different aspects that you will have to take into consideration. Many people begin looking at plastic surgery this time of year, as the beginning of a new year often inspires people to make improvements to their physical appearance. But you need to make sure that the surgeon you visit is qualified to do the work you want done, or else you could risk becoming another botched horror story.
Earlier this week, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) announced that it is launching a new public safety awareness campaign to help consumers make informed decisions when it comes to plastic surgery. According to the organization, there has been an increase in recent years of people looking to have a botched surgery fixed, as it was not conducted by a board certified surgeon. Making sure you are only visiting somebody qualified is crucial for long-term success.
“Plastic surgery is real surgery and patients need to do their homework before they undergo any plastic surgery procedure,” ASAPS president Scot Glasberg told local NBC affiliate WPTZ. “People spend more time selecting the model and color of a car than they do selecting their plastic surgeon. That needs to change.”
Making sure that your doctor is board certified is one of the most important steps that you will take when you are deciding on whether or not to have work done. Your health is not something to leave in the hands of somebody who is not qualified or up to the task at hand.
