How to get abs like a super hero
How do Hollywood’s leading men get the bodies of fictional super heroes? A new documentary from plastic surgery website Real Self explores the process, concluding that many American males are getting cosmetic procedures to achieve the ripped physique of todays’ action stars.
While some Hollywood super heroes are undoubtedly investing in plastic surgery, they aren’t the only ones. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the number of male patients has grown 273 percent in the last 16 years.
“The trend toward being ultra-fit is more so there than ever,” one plastic surgeon tells the film producers. “It used to be a man could get by with a pot belly and graying sideburns and look distinguished. But now that’s not enough — in order to make it in Hollywood, you have to be cut. That really mirrors what’s going on in society.”
Of course, if you want to look like Batman, you have to eat well and work out religiously, but for some people that simply isn’t going to be enough. That’s why many men are turning to liposuction and other surgical treatments to give them increased muscle definition and tone. Such procedures are typically best for patients who are already at or near their desired weight but have some areas of stubborn fat that just won’t go away by hitting the treadmill.
