Ear-pinning surgery is very common among kids and adult men
Ear-pinning surgery, or otoplasty, is a common procedure that can have life-changing results for kids and adults alike. The local ABC News affiliate in Cleveland, Ohio, recently interviewed a young girl who decided to have the surgery after years of being viciously teased by her peers. Samantha Daniels was an adorable kid whose ears stuck out just a little more than is typical and she was paying the price for it at school.
“This was affecting how she felt about herself,” Samantha’s mom, Susan Daniels, told the news outlet. “She was becoming quiet, wasn’t as outgoing, this was affecting who she was. And we didn’t want it to get worse and knew this was the path she was on.”
Samantha’s parents ultimately left the decision up to her. After more than a year of careful consideration, the little girl decided to move forward with the surgery. Afterward, an emotional Samantha told her parents that she finally felt beautiful. Susan said the procedure was worth every cent because it gave her daughter the confidence she deserves.
Otoplasty is also very common among adults, particularly men. In fact, according to The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), it was the fifth most common cosmetic surgical procedure among men in the United States in 2013. More than 15,000 male patients had the operation.
