More 50-somethings reportedly getting cosmetic surgery for their careers
More 50-somethings are reportedly getting cosmetic surgery for the sake of their careers, according to a new article in The Daily Telegraph. The Australian newspaper reports that older workers are far more likely than their younger counterparts to be out of work for an extended period of time. Mental health expert Phillipa Hays tells the news outlet that may be because of age bias, which is common among employers.
“People say they have to get work. They say they’re not going to get work if they have lots of wrinkles,” Hays tells The Telegraph. “It’s now becoming normalized for women and men to have cosmetic surgery as you head into your 40s or 50s, it’s part of normal life. We’re seeing a great increase in the amount of cosmetic surgery that’s done.”
Many American men and women are following suit, investing in surgical and non-surgical procedures to keep themselves looking young and vibrant, which can give them an edge in the work place. After all, if you are up for a promotion against someone in their mid-30s, you don’t want to look tired and haggard!
Today’s work environment is more competitive than ever. If you want to get ahead in your career, it is probably a good idea to consider your options for improving your appearance, from minor procedures like Botox to more complete transformations like a breast lift, liposuction or tummy tuck.
