Poll: Half of South Korean male teens would get plastic surgery
We’ve previously discussed on this blog how more American men are seeking to enhance their looks through surgical cosmetic procedures, and it appears the trend is not limited to the United States.
According to the Yonhap News Agency, a new South Korea poll reveals that 49.4 percent of males between the ages of 15 and 19 in Seoul, the nation’s capital, would get plastic surgery to improve their looks. Only 16.9 percent said they would definitely not seek such a procedure.
International news outlet The Global Post reports that the data marks a major change since 2007, when nearly 60 percent of male teens said they would never get cosmetic surgery. At the time, only 16.8 percent said they would consider it. More young men in Seoul also now say that people are judged based on their looks.
Here in the U.S. we have seen similar trends, as American men realize that improving their looks can help them succeed at work and in life. Between 1997 and 2012, the total number of cosmetic procedures performed on men grew by 106 percent, according to The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). The most popular treatments were liposuction, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, breast reduction and ear shaping.
While the increase in male plastic surgery reported by the ASAPS might seem astounding, it does not surprise us here at Christopher Craft Cosmetic Surgery.
