Could plastic surgery improve your online persona?
Let’s face it, we live in a time where looks are more important than ever. With a click of a mouse, we can find out large amounts of information about a person without even meeting them. The first impression is the most important and these preliminary encounters are increasingly happening online. For many people, looking good in an online profile is just as important as looking good in person.
One Los Angeles woman recently underwent several plastic surgery procedures in order to improve her online persona, ABC News reports. Traina Lavey had chin and nose surgeries followed by Botox injections in order to take better self portraits with her smartphone – also known as “selfies.”
“Social media has really changed so much about how we look at ourselves and judge ourselves,” the 39-year-old talent agent told the news outlet. “Today, this business, moving at the speed of the Internet, your selfie is your headshot.”
Not surprisingly, Lavey has received some criticism for her decision to have plastic surgery to make herself look better online. Some individuals have said that cosmetic procedures are an extreme way to solve a minor problem. Lavey has pushed back at her critics, noting that many individuals alter their selfies before posting them online. According to Lavey, getting surgery is a more honest action than doctoring photos.
